General
Product
Descriptions |
PTFE
It has
qualities
that
place it
at the
top of
the
scale
compared
to other
plastics
and
materials. PTFE has
the
lowest
coefficient
of
friction
of any
solid
known
and has
high
heat
resistance,
up to
500°F.
It is
chemically
inert,
requires
no
lubrication
and is
moisture
resistant.
PTFE is
manufactured
in many
variations,
using
additives
such as
glass
and
chemical
compounds
to give
it
specific
properties
for a
particular
¬application.
UHMW-PE
UHMW-PE
has one
of the
highest
impact
strengths
of any
thermoplastic.
It is
abrasion
¬resistant,
has high
tensile
strength,
displays
resistance
to
stress
cracking,
and has
a good
coefficient
of
friction.
It is
well-suited
where
durability
and low
friction
are of
paramount
importance.
Its high
resistance
to
corrosive
chemicals,
with the
exception
of
oxidizing
acids,
make it
an ideal
choice
for a
wide
variety
of
corrosive
environment
applications.
UHMW-PE
can
operate
successfully
at
temperatures
as low
as
-375°F
making
it an
excellent
material
for
¬cryogenic
applications.
UHMW-PE
is
available
in
several
grades
including
USDA/FDA
approved
natural,
ultraviolet
safe
black,
and
cross-linked,
which
offers
better
wear
resistance.
Nylon
Nylon
can
replace
vastly
different
materials
because
nylon's
toughness
and
abrasion
¬resistance
lie
between
those of
rubber
and
steel.
This
combination
of
properties,
rather
than
¬superiority
in any
single
area
make
nylon
useful
for many
different
applications
Most
commonly
used are
Type 6
(cast)
and Type
6/6
(extruded).
(Note
physical
differences
above.)
Nylon
generally
absorbs
more
moisture
than
other
bearing
materials
and
therefore
may be
dimensionally
unstable
in wet
applications
requiring
close
tolerances.
Nylon is
also
available
in oil
or MoS2
filled
compounds
which
offer a
lower
cofficient
of
friction
for
bearings
and wear
¬parts.
Nylon
oil
filled
offers a
much
high PV
rating.
Acetal
Acetal
is a
generic
descriptive
name for
two
polymers,
Celcon-
a
copolymer
made by
Celaness-
and
Delrin-
a
homopolymer
made by
E.I.
Dupont
De
Nemours.
Both
materials
offer
¬excellent
machining
properties
and are
both
dimensionally
stable
making
them
ideal
for
holding
close
tolerances.
The high
compression
strength
and
stiffness
of
acetal
also
make it
a good
material
for
high-load
applications.
Natural
Acetal
is
USDA/FDA
approved.
Polypropylene
This
material
has high
impact
and
chemical
resistance.
It has a
50%
higher
temperature
rating
than
UHMW at
the same
cost. It
is also
lightweight
and
dimensionally
stable -
good for
low-cost
fabrications.
